Eddie Quirk, Queensland Reds Profile

Eddie Quirk - Queensland Reds

Eddie Quirk - Meatcart Ambassador

Born on the 28th day of August, 1991 in Brisbane in state of Queensland, Eddie Quirk is a rugby player who plays professionally for the Queensland Reds. Quirk made his Super Rugby debut during the 2010 Super 14 season where he and his team fought against the Highlanders. His first game was held at Suncorp Stadium and typically, Eddie plays as a blindside flanker.

His presence was heavily felt  during his high work rate on the field and his great accuracy in the breakdown which gave the Reds a crucial edge during the second half of their games. Because Eddie Quirk is 191 cm tall and weighs 108 kg, he has been used to maximum effect  during the season so far.

Unfortunately, the young redhead had acquired a shoulder injury during the Reds exhibition game on the Sunshine Coast against the Hurricanes. This shoulder injury had brutally ended his individual campaign.

Eddie Quirk is expected to have a tremendous contribution for the year 2013 as Scott Higginbotham, a well known player, made a move to Melbourne. But this expectation for him to step up immediately isn’t the first one of his career. In 2011, his first year in the Senior Reds Squad,  he had began with the hefty task of filling the position of flanker Daniel Braid.

Quirk wore the No. 7 jersey during the opening of the two matches for the season which were against the Western Force and the NSW Waratahs respectively.  During his debut, he was matched with the Wallaies supremo David Pocock and the following week, against Phil Waugh, the Waratahs skipper, in Sydney.

Eddie had also served as a representative of the U20s in 2010 and in 2011. His hard running style of rugby had also led him to a success in a shortened game with the Australian Sevens team and in  2010, he racked up 6 tries during a standout campaign.

Aside from being part of the Queensland Reds as a blindside flanker, Eddie Quirk was also able to represent the Queensland and Australia during school. He became the recipient of the Bronze Boot Award in 2008 for a Man of the Match performance against a New Zealand team.

During his journey towards the Reds, he was able to maintain quite an impressive resume including playing for Queensland Under 16’s in 2007, Queensland Schoolboys, Australia A and Australian Schoolboys in 2008, QAS Reds Academy as well as Australian Sevens in 2009 to 2010 and the Australian U20s in 2010 to 2011.

To add to his already impressive career, Eddie Quirk is also being viewed as a leader within the Reds setup. Quirk was chosen as the Queensland A’s captain during the campaign in the 2012 Pacific Rugby Cup where they fought against the Fiji Warriors, the Samoa A and the Tonga A.

Together with perseverance, hard work and motivation, Eddie Quirk is very physically fit to be able to get this far in his career. Eddie has been sponsored by Meatcart for some time and is a regular shopper, enjoying great quality meat to keep his body in great condition!
